The 2000 Cobra R was the only SVT Cobra model offered for the 2000 model year, developed by Ford’s legendary Special Vehicle Team (SVT) as a true street-legal race car. Purpose-built for track performance while remaining road legal, the Cobra R eliminated unnecessary luxury items in favor of capability, creating what many enthusiasts consider the most hardcore naturally aspirated Mustang of the New Edge era.
Powered by the legendary hand-assembled 5.4L DOHC V8 paired with the highly desirable Tremec T-56 6-speed manual transmission, this Cobra R delivers a raw, analog driving experience unlike anything else Ford was building at the time. The Cobra R package included SVT-exclusive cylinder heads, revised camshafts, upgraded cooling systems, a unique high-flow intake manifold, Brembo brakes, Eibach springs, Bilstein dampers, and functional aerodynamic enhancements purpose-built for serious performance driving.
